Dark Chocolate Dipped Apple Pops

Slices of crisp apples dipped in dark chocolate then covered with tasty toppings. This is such a great recipe to do with the kids during the fall months when apple picking is in full swing. Kids love dipped apples! These pops are a much easier and less messy way of giving your kids that dipped apple treat without the sugary candy coating.

These are great for a party or just a fun activity for the kids. These aren't just for kids thought. These are a great sweet treat that you don't have to feel guilty about. Using freeze dried fruit as a topping sneaks even more fruit into the diet too.

Dark Chocolate Dipped Apple Pops


Makes roughly 9 pops

  • 3 large apples, sliced into 1/2" wide slices

  • 8 oz dark chocolate

  • 1 tsp coconut oil, optional

  • toppings for apple slices - nuts, dried fruits, dried edible flowers, coconut shreds, goji berries, cocoa nibs, seeds, sprinkles, chopped dates, etc.

  • cake pop stick or popsicle sticks


Have a baking sheet covered with parchment paper ready to hold your apple slices. I get about 3 slices per apple, depending on the size.

Set out your toppings.

Slice each apple into 1/2" slices. I don't use the ends but you can if you'd like. I don't core them. I just pick out the seeds.

Insert a cake pop stick or popsicle stick into the bottom center of each apple slice, careful not to split the apple slice in half.

In a dish or bowl large enough to dip in your apple slices melt your chocolate and teaspoon of coconut oil (if using) in either in a double boiler or the microwave. Melt in 15 second increments, stirring in between, until the chocolate is fully melted.

Dip an apple slice into the chocolate ensuring the slice is fully coated with chocolate, all the way to the stick. Working quickly, lay your apple slice onto your parchment paper and add on your desired toppings. You want to do each apple slice right after you are done so the toppings stick to the chocolate. Continue doing this until all your apple slices are done.

You don't have to put these on sticks. You could just dipped these slices and eat them as is. Just be prepared for chocolate covered fingers when you're done! But hey, if that is the worst problem you have all day then I'd say it is a win.
